The responsibility for dealing with human trafficking will be transferred from the Undersecretary for Migration to the Ministry of Justice and Public Order. This decision was accepted by all stakeholders, including the executive branch, the Legal Service, and non-governmental organizations. The President of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Irene Charalambidou, expressed her satisfaction with the agreement and announced the submission of a bill to facilitate the transition. The Undersecretary for Migration, Nikolaos Ioannidis, explained that the management of human trafficking had been transferred to the Undersecretary from the Ministry of Interior, but it is considered that this responsibility belongs more to the Ministry of Justice due to the nature of the crimes associated with human trafficking. He expressed his thanks to the Minister of Justice for his cooperation. The transfer of responsibility is expected to lead to better coordination and more effective tackling of human trafficking. The need to strengthen the Ministry of Justice with appropriate personnel and resources was highlighted, as well as the upgrading of the Police to effectively address the phenomenon. The new regulation is expected to contribute to better management of human trafficking cases and the protection of victims, as well as to strengthen cooperation between relevant services and bodies.
