Fidias Panayiotou Responds to Allegations of Misusing Funds with TikTok Video

MEP Fidias Panayiotou responded to allegations regarding his financial management through a video posted on TikTok. He rejects claims that he is using European Parliament funds to pay for the rent of his apartment and office, providing evidence of payments he has made from his personal funds. Specifically, Mr. Panayiotou states that the apartment he shares with his future wife is rented for 1200 euros and is paid for entirely by himself. Regarding his office, which he uses for his team and his podcasts, he claims to pay 2300 euros in rent, of which 1600 is covered by the European Parliament and 700 from his own pocket. Furthermore, he refers to his party's “Agora” application, emphasizing that it is used for decision-making in the European Parliament and that the funding of related functions will be provided by the European Parliament itself. Mr. Panayiotou maintains that he has agreed on this with the European Parliament. Meanwhile, MEPs from different political groups have expressed differing views regarding the EU-Mercosur agreements. MEPs Lucas Fourlas and Michalis Hadjipantela of the EPP had promoted changes to the agreements, which are now unlikely to be made. MEP Giorgos Georgiou of AKEL expresses concerns about a “democratic deficit” and believes that the agreement will be put into effect by the Commission.
