MP Calls for Updated Laws and Infrastructure for Micromobility

MP Valentinos Fakontis emphasized the need to revise the law regarding the movement of bicycles and personal mobility devices, following a discussion in the Parliamentary Committee on Transport. The rapid increase in the use of these means requires improvement of technical specifications, clarity in the legal framework, and strengthening of cooperation between relevant authorities. Mr. Fakontis highlighted the need to develop safe infrastructure, such as dedicated lanes, to ensure the safety of users and pedestrians. Micromobility, according to the MP, represents the future of sustainable urban mobility and should be supported with a modern institutional framework and appropriate infrastructure. Revising the law and improving infrastructure will contribute to reducing pollution, alleviating traffic congestion, and improving the quality of life in cities. The lack of clear rules and inadequate infrastructure create risks to the safety of users and citizens. Mr. Fakontis called on the competent authorities to address the gaps in the legal framework and implement the necessary infrastructure immediately, in order to fully exploit the benefits of micromobility and ensure a safe and sustainable mobility environment for all.
