Syka Case with Urgent Procedure: DISY Files Objection – Hearing on February 24th Before the Party's Supreme Council Decision

MP Nikos Sykas has filed a civil lawsuit against the Democratic Rally (DISY) regarding the decision of the Political Bureau to remove him from the Limassol ballot for the May Parliamentary Elections. He is seeking a temporary order to suspend the decision until the case is heard. DISY, through its lawyer, appeared with reservations and requested time to file an objection. The Court set a hearing for February 24th, with written arguments, and requested that DISY file its objection in writing by February 20th. Sykas was also given the opportunity to file a supplementary affidavit by the date of the hearing. The case must be heard before February 28th, before the meeting of the party's Supreme Council. Mr. Sykas argues that the decision of the DISY Political Bureau to exclude him from the ballot is illegal and wrong. The lawsuit was filed due to the urgency of the matter, given that the party's decision directly affects his participation in the elections. The case is progressing rapidly, with the court attempting to resolve the issue before the meeting of the DISY Supreme Council. The outcome of the case will determine whether Mr. Sykas will be able to run for a seat in parliament on the DISY ballot.
