Thanasis Nikolaou Case: "Feels Threatened" Claims S. Matsas – “No Threat Detected by Police” Responds Vrachimis

The judicial process for the death of Thanasis Nikolaou began today at the Limassol District Court with a private criminal prosecution. During the proceedings, tension arose between the lawyer for the Prosecuting Authority and Savvas Matsas, who had initially undertaken the defense but withdrew to testify as a witness. Mr. Matsas claimed he feels threatened for his life, as he received an information note from the Police about threats. However, the defense accused Mr. Matsas of lying and that his complaint is an attempt to undermine justice. The defense lawyer, Laris Vrachimis, stated that Mr. Matsas requested the information note from the Police himself. The Police, according to Mr. Vrachimis, found no threat to Mr. Matsas. The proceedings were adjourned to continue on March 19, with Mr. Matsas requesting to remain in the courtroom as an observer. The Prosecuting Authority is expected to add witnesses to the indictment. The case has generated significant interest and today's proceedings were characterized by intense clashes between the two sides. The disagreement over the threats to Mr. Matsas and the accusation of attempting to undermine justice highlight the complexity of the case.
