Ministry of Agriculture: Water Cuts Depend on EOA Management

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced that water cuts will depend on the management of the Provincial Self-Government Organizations (EOA). The decision concerns a 10% reduction in the flow in their networks and not immediate interruptions. If the EOAs manage resources properly, the public will not be deprived of water and cuts may not be necessary. The Ministry has asked the EOAs to restrain demand and will launch an awareness campaign. Meetings have begun between officials of the Water Development Department and the EOAs to determine the implementation of the decision and resource management. At the same time, due to maintenance work at a desalination plant in Dekelia, there will be a reduction in water supply for two days, but the Ministry assures that the flow from refineries and dams will be increased to cover needs. For 2026, approximately 104 million cubic meters of water are expected to be available, an amount corresponding to the consumption of 2024. However, there is an annual increase in demand of 4-5%, so the EOAs were asked to take measures to restrain demand, given the 10% reduction in supply.
