Argaka Dam Overflows, Call for Rational Water Use

The Argaka dam overflowed this morning, around 8:30 AM, according to the Provincial Engineer of the Water Development Department. The dam has a capacity of 990,000 cubic meters of water and is part of the Chrysochous irrigation project, used primarily for irrigation. It operates in conjunction with the Evretou, Agia Marina, and Pomos dams. Mr. Kasioulis emphasized that the recent rainfall in the Paphos province is beneficial, as water reserves in the dams remain at low levels. However, he stressed the need for rational water management, given the increasing needs. Furthermore, he warned that the inflow of water into the dams does not mean unlimited consumption, calling on citizens to be careful and limit themselves to absolutely necessary uses. Despite the overflow of the Pomos and Argaka dams, there should be no complacency, as the situation remains vulnerable. The overflow of the Argaka dam is a positive sign, but it reminds us of the need for prudent management of water resources and the avoidance of waste.
