Agia Marina Chrysochous Dam Overflows

The Agia Marina Chrysochous dam overflowed in the early hours of Saturday, an event of particular environmental importance for the province of Paphos. It is the third dam in the area to overflow this year, after the Pomos and Argaka dams, indicating increased hydrological activity and the need for proper water resource management. The dam, although small in capacity (298 thousand cubic meters), is vital for irrigating agricultural production in the Chrysochous region. Its construction in 1965 was a significant project for the time, while the repeated overflow today highlights the need for modern water management policies, taking into account climate change. Residents are urged to avoid water waste, despite the positive indication of fullness.
