Cyprus MOE Announces Pilot Social Worker Services in Schools by 2026

The Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MOE) has announced the pilot operation of Social Worker Services in select schools by 2026. Minister Athena Michaelidou emphasized the need to transform education, focusing on skills development and moving away from rote learning. Other priorities for 2026 include finalizing the list of eligible teachers for appointment, reforming special education towards a more inclusive model, and strengthening the mental resilience of students and educators. Simultaneously, the creation of manuals to address violence and delinquency in schools is being promoted, and these manuals have already been distributed to schools. The MOE aims for a holistic approach to create a more effective and inclusive school environment.
