Regions Must Have a Voice in the New EU Financial Framework

The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, stated that regions must have an active role and a “voice” in the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) of the European Union. The statement was made after a meeting with the President of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), Philippe Rheinhar, ahead of the CPMR Political Bureau meeting in Nicosia. The Minister stressed that the future of Europe depends on the regions and European cohesion, highlighting the need for a territorial approach to policies. Philippe Rheinhar expressed his satisfaction with the alignment of the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency with the priorities of the CPMR, as well as the effort to bring the regions closer to the center of policymaking. The CPMR meeting focused on connectivity, competitiveness, resilience and the development of island and coastal communities.
