Labor Ministry Aims for Pension Reform Bill by June 2026

The Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance aims to submit a bill for pension reform by June 2026, which will concern the first pillar, namely pension benefits. Simultaneously, it plans to submit a bill on collective bargaining agreements by the end of February/beginning of March, before the dissolution of Parliament for the elections, with the goal of increasing coverage of employees by collective bargaining agreements to 80% from the current 40-45%. Minister of Labor Marinos Mousiouttas informed the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Labor about the Ministry's objectives. The pension bill will include issues such as the low-income pension allowance, the investment policy of the Social Insurance Fund, and the 12% penalty. Partners have requested additional clarifications, and a new meeting is scheduled for early February for a final update and collection of opinions.
