Ministry of Agriculture: Fine of up to €5,000 for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Violation

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced that in case of non-compliance with the control, prevention and restriction measures of foot-and-mouth disease, an administrative fine of up to €5,000 will be imposed. The announcement concerns a Decree published in the Official Gazette of the Republic on March 5, 2026. The Decree, issued under the Animal Health Laws of 2001 to 2023, provides for restrictions on the movement of cloven-hoofed animals, feed, and grazing, as well as restrictions on the movement of people and equipment in areas affected by the disease. Exceptions are provided with the permission of the Competent Authority. Non-compliance with the measures constitutes a violation of the Animal Health Laws and entails the aforementioned administrative fine. The Ministry emphasizes that the Decree is a development of the official notification of measures that was issued on February 26, 2026.
