Tsokos Defends 'JALLA' Eurovision Entry, Addresses Criticism and Costs

The Director General of CyBC, Thanasis Tsokos, defended the selection of the song “JALLA” to represent Cyprus in Eurovision, describing it as a professional job and part of CyBC's strategy for outward-facing activities. He stated that the selection was made through an evaluation process in collaboration with record companies and a special committee. He dismissed criticism, arguing that subjective opinion does not negate the professional approach. He commented on a letter of protest from Cypriot artists, considering it contradictory. He explained that the participation cost is €50,000, while production is €120,000, with a corresponding contribution from the record company. Finally, he announced CyBC's intention to create a Cypriot song institution to promote Cypriot artists.
