Trump: Venezuela Oversight Could Last Years

US President Donald Trump stated that the United States' oversight of Venezuela could last for years, without specifying a concrete timeframe. He expressed his belief that Venezuela would be rebuilt profitably, utilizing its oil to lower prices and provide financial assistance to the country. Trump mentioned that the US has good relations with interim President Delsy Rodríguez, following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro during a raid. They had previously announced a plan to sell 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil, which had remained in the country due to the US embargo. According to Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, 100 people were killed during the US raid. Venezuelan officials claim that members of Maduro's security detail were killed “in cold blood,” while Cuba announced the death of 32 Cuban military and intelligence personnel who were in Venezuela. Maduro's wife, Cilia Flores, was injured in the head during the raid, and Maduro himself was injured in the leg. Interim President Rodríguez declared a week of mourning for the victims.
