Trump: Order to Armed Forces to Get Power from Coal Units

US President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Defense to procure electricity generated from coal-fired plants, as part of his effort to revitalize this industry. The order, signed at a ceremony with coal miners in attendance, directs the Pentagon to enter into long-term agreements to purchase power from coal, with the aim of ensuring uninterrupted supply for military installations. This move is in contrast to policies promoting renewable energy production and supports coal as "absolutely essential for national security." Trump has repeatedly expressed his support for the coal sector, going so far as to force companies to keep open stations that were about to close. Coal production in the US has declined over the past fifteen years, as it is replaced by natural gas and renewable energy sources. The Trump administration is also preparing to repeal texts that form the basis of policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is expected to have negative impacts on the effort to combat climate change.
