Factory Owner and Safety Manager Arrested After Deadly Explosion in Trikala

Following a fatal explosion at the “Violanta” factory in Trikala, the owner and safety manager have been arrested, charged with negligent manslaughter, explosion, negligent arson, and causing bodily harm. Five female workers lost their lives in the explosion, which appears to have been caused by a propane leak in the factory’s ovens. Authorities are investigating the building’s fire safety system, while “Violanta” management has announced initiatives to support the victims’ families. The Ministry of Development clarified that the responsibility for the factory’s licensing lies with the Thessaly Region, which operates on a “notification” system rather than prior approval.
