Three-Hour Strike at EAC on March 18th

Employees of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have announced a three-hour strike for Wednesday, March 18th, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, in protest of the serious problems facing the EAC and the electricity sector in general. The trade unions of the EAC accuse the government of lacking strategic planning and delaying the resolution of problems, highlighting the negative consequences for consumers and the economy. The unions state that, despite agreement with the EAC Board of Directors regarding the severity of the problems, solutions have not been implemented. They warn of escalating measures if their positions are not heard by the government. In their letter to the Board of Directors, the unions express their concern about the deterioration of the situation in the energy sector, which negatively affects consumers and the economy. They attribute the situation to the lack of strategic planning by the state and the inaction of the competent authorities. The unions argue that the government should focus on actions that ensure the adequacy of electricity, security of supply, support for consumers, and access to photovoltaics for all, rather than promoting proposals that, they say, lead to an increase in the cost of electricity.
