Emergency Plan Activated Following Widespread Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak

Following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in livestock units in various regions, the government has immediately activated a national action plan to combat the disease. According to current data, approximately 14,000 animals have been affected, and the process of culling and sanitary burial of infected animals is underway. A broad meeting was held at the Coordination Center for Research and Rescue (CCRS) with the participation of the Ministers of Agriculture, Justice, and Defense, and it was decided to operate a Crisis Management Center 24/7, aiming to coordinate actions and strengthen measures to limit the disease. The primary focus is on containing outbreaks within already affected areas and strictly regulating movements in livestock zones. Strict biosecurity measures and movement controls have been implemented in the affected zones, and disinfection systems have been installed to further prevent the spread of the disease. Veterinary Services are operating in accordance with national and European protocols for the management of contagious zoonotic diseases. Additionally, the arrival of experts from the European Union is expected to provide technical support and assistance, including the vaccination process. The government is committed to rapidly containing the outbreaks and ensuring livestock production and economic stability.
