Turkey Claims F-16 Deployment in Cyprus Enhances Island's Security

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MND) claims that the deployment of Turkish F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) aims to enhance the security of the entire island, not just the Turkish Cypriots. The MND states that this deployment is a response to the missile and drone threat arising from the conflicts between the US-Israel and Iran. Turkey, as a guarantor power in Cyprus, believes that these measures are necessary and balanced, especially in an environment where other countries are deploying military assets in the region. Simultaneously, the MND criticizes Greece for military activities in the Eastern Aegean islands, arguing that some islands should remain demilitarized. Additionally, the deployment of a Patriot air defense system in Malatya was announced as a complementary element of Turkey's air defense, following the interception of missiles from Iran.
