DW Correspondent Detained in Turkey Over Posts on X

DW's Turkish service correspondent, Alican Uludag, has been detained in Ankara following an investigation launched by the Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office. The investigation concerns the journalist's posts on the X platform (formerly Twitter) and relates to the offenses of “public insult of the President” and “public dissemination of misleading information.” According to the prosecutor's office statement, Uludag will be brought before the court on February 20, 2026. So far, there has been no official statement from the journalist himself or from DW. The arrest of the DW correspondent raises concerns about freedom of the press in Turkey, which has been recorded as one of the countries with the most journalists in detention. This case is expected to provoke international outcry and intensify pressure on the Turkish government to ensure freedom of speech and journalism.
