A 70-year-old man from Paphos, Savvas Ioannou, lost his life in a fatal road accident on the Limassol – Nicosia highway, near the village of Moni. The accident occurred when a 37-year-old driver hit traffic cones and collided with a truck carrying cones, fatally injuring Ioannou, who was unloading the cones. The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was arrested to facilitate investigations, with alcohol and drug tests yielding negative results. Ioannou was near the truck when the car hit the cones and collided with it. The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the Limassol Traffic Police. The area was marked with cones due to ongoing road works. The accident occurred around 7:25 PM yesterday evening, heading towards Limassol. The Limassol Traffic Police are conducting investigations to determine the exact causes of the accident and the conditions under which it occurred. The arrest of the 37-year-old driver was made under a court warrant in order to facilitate the investigations. Police are examining all possible causes of the accident, including the possibility of human error or mechanical failure.
