The End of the Iliad

The author, Vivian Avraamidou-Ploumbi, expresses concerns about the ongoing crisis in Cyprus and the wider region, as well as the wars raging internationally (Ukraine, Gaza, Middle East). She criticizes the Cypriot tendency to seek solutions outside their own capabilities and the failure to focus on internally resolving the Cyprus issue. The author emphasizes that there are no winners in wars, only losses and human pain. She refers to the epic of the Iliad and the scene of Priam begging Achilles, highlighting the value of humanity even in war. The message is that peace and understanding are more important than glory and victory.
