Council Approves Broad Package of Agreements with Switzerland

The Council of the European Union has given the green light for the signing of a broad package of agreements between the EU and Switzerland, aimed at deepening and expanding their cooperation. The package includes updates to existing agreements and new agreements on food safety, health, and energy, as well as Switzerland's financial contribution to the EU. The Cypriot Presidency played a key role in completing the agreements, which will modernize the EU-Switzerland partnership. The package of agreements allows Switzerland access to the EU single market and participation in various EU programs, including the Space Organization. Negotiations were completed on December 20, 2024, and the Commission is authorized to sign the agreements in March 2026, after the approval of the European Parliament and the completion of procedures by Switzerland. The agreement on Switzerland's participation in EU programs has been applied since the beginning of 2025, while the conclusion of the entire package is expected to strengthen EU-Switzerland relations and promote economic and social cohesion.
