Trump's Draft Agreement for Greenland

Donald Trump revealed that he has reached a “framework for a future agreement” with his European allies for Greenland, which includes the deployment of the “Golden Dome” anti-missile shield and mineral extraction. Trump described the agreement as “excellent” and “forever,” without providing specific details. The draft of the agreement, as reported by The Telegraph, provides that the US will control parts of Greenland, designating them as sovereign base areas, similar to the agreement between Britain and Cyprus. This will allay Denmark's fears that the US is preparing to annex the self-governing territory. According to this model, the US will be able to deploy and operate military infrastructure in Greenland, as well as conduct intelligence and training operations, having unlimited freedom of movement in air, land and sea. In addition, access to minerals that may exist in the area will be facilitated. These discussions took place at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Trump met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Rutte did not provide further details, while a spokesperson said he did not propose any sovereignty compromise.
