Water Scarcity in Cyprus: A National Security Issue

Water scarcity in Cyprus is being treated as a matter of national security, as it affects the resilience of the state, agricultural production, energy sufficiency, and social stability. The European Union recognizes the seriousness of the problem and has committed significant investments to address it. Three levels of action are proposed: immediate crisis management (strengthening desalination, reducing leaks), structural redesign (digitalization of networks, precision agriculture), and geopolitical dimension (cooperation for water resource management). The lack of water threatens the economy, social cohesion, and sustainable development of Cyprus.
