Iran Accuses US of Seeking Pretext for Military Intervention

Iran has accused the US of seeking a pretext for military intervention following statements by Donald Trump about a possible response to executions of protesters. The Iranian mission to the United Nations stated that US policy aims to change the regime through sanctions, threats, and inciting unrest. It also accused Trump of encouraging destabilization and violence. In a letter of protest addressed to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, the Iranian side emphasized that the US and Israel bear responsibility for the loss of life of innocent civilians. Furthermore, it accused Trump of urging Iranians to continue protests, promising help without clarifying what he meant. US President Donald Trump responded by stating that the US would take “very strong action” if Iran proceeds with the execution of protesters. However, he did not provide further details about the specific action. Meanwhile, the head of German diplomacy, Johann Wadepuhl, stated that the Iranian leadership has lost all legitimacy due to the violent suppression of protests.
