European Parliament Freezes Trade Deal with US Amid Trump's Tariff Threats

The European Parliament has decided to postpone the ratification of a trade agreement with the United States, in response to recent threats from President Trump to impose tariffs, including potential duties on France and his attempt to purchase Greenland. This decision marks the EU's first official reaction to Trump's pressures and was reached through a “majority agreement” among political groups. Europe is considering broader responses, including increasing tariffs on US products worth 93 billion euros. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen assured that the EU's response will be decisive, united, and proportionate. The suspension of ratification concerns the removal of tariffs on certain American products, agreed last July.
