Louvre Museum to Establish Byzantine and Eastern Christian Art Department with Support from A. G. Leventis Foundation

The Louvre Museum has announced the creation of a new Department of Byzantine and Eastern Christian Art by 2028, with financial support from a community of donors, including the A. G. Leventis Foundation. The new department will offer a new perspective on Islamic art and Roman antiquities, showcasing masterpieces of Byzantine art from the beginnings of Christianity to the 20th century. The Byzantine tour will occupy 2,200 square meters and will include renovation of the spaces and upgrading of the technical facilities. To date, contributions to the project have reached 42 million euros, with the campaign continuing to raise more funds.
