BBC Seeks to Dismiss Trump's $10 Billion Defamation Lawsuit

The BBC is seeking to have a $10 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Donald Trump dismissed, arguing that it lacks jurisdiction over the case. Trump accuses the BBC of distorting his statements regarding the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, portraying him as a supporter of violence. The BBC counters that the court does not have jurisdiction as it does not distribute the documentary in the US and its subsidiaries do not operate in Florida. Furthermore, it argues that the publicity surrounding Trump's actions on the day of the Capitol events was so extensive that the documentary excerpt could not have materially impacted his reputation. The BBC acknowledges an editing error but believes it does not constitute sufficient grounds for a defamation suit. Trump's legal team rejects the BBC's arguments, stating that the network intentionally defamed the former president. Judge Altman had previously denied a BBC request to halt the discovery process.
