Rainfall Boosts Dam Levels, But Situation Remains Concerning

Recent weekend rainfall has significantly improved dam levels in Cyprus, with an inflow of 9.2 million cubic meters of water. The Klerou and Pomos dams have overflowed, while the Kalopanagiotis dam had overflowed earlier. However, the overall picture remains concerning, as the fullness remains lower than the same period last year, reaching 17.2% compared to 25.9% last year. The Water Development Department is considering additional solutions, such as the creation of new desalination units, to address the water shortage. The reduced dam levels affect the environment, biodiversity, and community wells.
