Labor Shortages and Minimum Wage Discussed Between Ministry of Labor and KEVE

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE) and the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, met to discuss the serious labor shortages facing Cyprus in all sectors of the economy. KEVE expressed strong disagreement with the setting of an hourly minimum wage, proposing to maintain the determination of labor costs according to the working hours of each company. In addition, pension reform was discussed, with KEVE emphasizing the need for a transparent, fiscally prudent, and socially targeted reform that does not jeopardize the sustainability of the Social Insurance Fund. The need to continue granting permits for the import of foreign labor and to modernize the criteria for granting permits was highlighted.
