Greek Language Honored: A Powerful Video by High School Students

The Greek language was honored today in a grand event organized by the Embassy of Greece, the University of Cyprus, the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus, and the Ministry of Education, under the auspices of the President of the Republic. The event focused on the value and timeless importance of the Greek language, which has become universal and left a strong mark on global culture. The highlight of the event was a moving video created by students from the Apostle Barnabas Lyceum in Strovolos. Through the video, the students shared their love and respect for the Greek language, while also expressing their concerns about modern technological challenges that threaten its integrity. They pledged to preserve and promote the Greek language for future generations. The video emerged as a powerful message for preserving our linguistic heritage. The students used words such as “light,” “homeland,” “roots,” “democracy,” “values,” “culture,” “identity,” “Homer,” “Elytis,” “history,” and “jasmine” to describe the concept of the Greek language, emphasizing its rich history and cultural wealth. The establishment of February 9th as “World Greek Language Day” by UNESCO, in memory of the national poet Dionysios Solomos, underscores the international recognition of the importance of the Greek language. Today's event served as an opportunity to honor our language and highlight the need to preserve it in a rapidly changing world.
