Cyprus' Observer Status at Peace Conference Explained by Government

Published February 16, 2026, 09:34

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis clarified Cyprus' position at the Gaza Conference, responding to criticism from the opposition and references by Maria Angela Holguin. Cyprus will participate in the conference as an observer, with the aim of implementing the peace plan for Gaza, based on UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The Spokesman dismissed claims of a 'US agenda' and described as absurd the references linking Cyprus' participation to upcoming elections. He emphasized Cyprus' readiness for a comprehensive conference and its commitment to resuming negotiations from the point where they left off in Crans Montana, based on the Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation.
