What to Do to Keep Receiving TV Signal

On April 30, 2026, the transmission of the existing DVB-T digital terrestrial television system in Cyprus will end, requiring consumers to be technologically prepared for the new DVB-T2 standard in order to continue receiving free-to-air channels. From March 16, 2026, the parallel operation of the two systems will begin, with the full transition to DVB-T2 on April 30, 2026. DVB-T2 is the second generation of digital terrestrial television broadcasting, offering higher capacity, better image and sound quality (including Ultra HD, 4K and 8K), as well as greater signal reliability. This transition requires consumers to choose televisions that support DVB-T2 or purchase external decoders for older televisions. Importers and retailers are called upon to ensure the availability of devices compatible with DVB-T2, which must bear the CE marking and the relevant declaration of conformity. The transition to the new system is expected to improve the quality of television reception and offer new possibilities to consumers. A public awareness campaign will be launched to inform citizens about the transition to the new system, in order to ensure that all citizens are aware of the changes and can prepare accordingly. The transition to DVB-T2 is an important step in upgrading digital television in Cyprus.
