Government Responds to Photo of President with Arrested Businessman

The Deputy Government Spokesperson, Yannis Antoniou, commented on a series of issues of public interest. Regarding photos circulating online showing President Christodoulides with a businessman from Larnaca who was arrested last week, Mr. Antoniou stressed that there is no implied relationship between the two, noting that the President knows people from all walks of life and that the individual has been photographed with other politicians as well. The spokesperson emphasized that the President is accountable only for his own actions. Regarding allegations of domestic violence by Phaedon Phaedonos, Mr. Antoniou called for caution and respect for legal proceedings. At the same time, he expressed concern about the public statements of Anna Fotiou (Annie Alexui) and her revelations, warning of the risk of creating a toxic climate. Furthermore, Mr. Antoniou described Fydias Panagiotou's comments about people with intellectual disabilities as disturbing and problematic, emphasizing the government's strong support for people with disabilities and their representatives. He also expressed his surprise that such a comment by a Member of the European Parliament had received so much publicity. The government appears to be seeking to manage these issues carefully, avoiding taking a position on cases pending before the courts and emphasizing the importance of respect and responsibility in public discourse.
