Changes to the Legal Framework for Turkish Cypriot Properties

The Turkish Cypriot Properties Management Service has launched extensive audits to ensure the transparent and meritocratic management of these properties. The service's director, Anthi Lakotripis, stated that the audits cover commercial properties, open spaces, and residences, revealing a significant number of violations in existing lease agreements. Specifically, out of audits of 4,032 lease agreements, violations were identified in 512 cases. Warning letters have already been sent in 146 cases, resulting in compliance in some, while the remaining are being resolved. In addition, 66 commercial properties and open spaces have been recovered. The audits have also extended to agreements with local authorities, where 31 violations were identified in 275 cases, with warning letters sent and 13 recoveries made. Simultaneously, audits of Turkish Cypriot residences have begun, focusing on visual inspection and assessing their suitability. To date, 91 residences have been audited, with violations identified and 6 residences recovered. The service is committed to publishing available Turkish Cypriot properties every three months, providing transparency and equal access opportunities. Public interest in these properties is high, underscoring the importance of their proper management.
