Iran's Elite Live Lavishly While Protests Rage

While Iran violently suppresses protests with deaths, the children of the elite live a life of extravagance and luxury, both within and outside the country. Sons and daughters of senior clerics, ministers, and security officials flaunt luxury cars, designer accessories, private jets, and high-cost parties, in stark contrast to the economic collapse and fear prevailing in Iranian society. The Daily Mail reports examples such as fashion designer Anashid Hosseini, who sparked outrage by showcasing luxury items on social media shortly before the protests began. It also mentions the brothers Mohammad Hossein and Hassan Samghani, who control an international shipping empire from Dubai, as well as relatives of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei living in Europe and Canada. This provocative affluence of the elite is causing anger and resentment, especially among Iran's younger generation (Generation Z), who see people their age living without accountability and protected by their families. At the same time, the recent tax reform in Iran introduces incentives for energy upgrading of homes, including the installation of photovoltaic systems, but the contrast between the life of the elite and the daily life of citizens remains sharp and is a source of social discord.
