Cyprus to Implement Gender-Responsive Budgeting Across Public Sector

Cyprus is moving forward with the implementation of gender-responsive budgeting across the entire public sector, supported by new legislation and training programs. The Commissioner for Gender Equality, Jozi Christodoulou, announced that the Council of Ministers has approved the “Gender Mainstreaming Act of 2025,” which will integrate gender equality into policy-making and the state budget. The legislation will require the integration of the gender dimension into all policies, actions, legislative initiatives, and the state budget, as well as public contracts. The government has already incorporated the gender dimension into tax reform proposals, such as relief measures for parents and single-parent families, aiming to strengthen women's participation in the labor market and reduce the pension gap between genders.
