Fourfold Increase in Donations to Social Support Agency Since 2023

The Independent Social Support Agency has received four times more donations since 2023 compared to previous years, according to data presented by the Auditor General Andreas Antoniades to the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions. Specifically, donations amounted to €560,914 in 2020, €368,091 in 2021, €260,100 in 2022, while reaching €2,269,005 in 2023, €2,176,196 in 2024 and €2,049,909 in 2025. Mr. Antoniades emphasized that all donations are made via bank transfer to the Central Bank and not in cash. The presentation of this data was made in anticipation of the Committee's meeting to discuss the institutional implications of allegations contained in a video that circulated regarding the government of Nikos Christodoulides. The Committee Chairman, Dimitris Dimitriou, stated that he expects a more complete response to his initial request for information. The Auditor General reserved the right to return with an opinion from the Legal Service regarding the possibility of disclosing data that may fall under the provisions for the protection of personal data. The significant increase in donations to the Social Support Agency highlights public trust in the organization and the need for transparency and accountability in the management of its resources, especially in relation to recent allegations.
