The police in Thailand used a particularly imaginative method to arrest a man accused of stealing Buddhist artifacts worth approximately 54,000 euros. During the Lunar New Year celebrations, police officers dressed as a lion and approached the suspect unnoticed. The video that circulated shows the police officers in the lion costume approaching the man, before an officer emerged from the head of the costume and immobilized him with the help of his colleagues. The suspect is accused of burglary and theft of religious artifacts, including two Buddha statues 30 centimeters high. Police estimate the value of the stolen items at 2 million baht (approximately 54,000 euros). It is noted that the 33-year-old has a criminal record for offenses involving drugs and theft. The police operation went viral on social media, causing impression and comments about its originality.
