Cyprus: Water Saving Remains Necessary Despite Rainfall

Despite recent rainfall resulting in an inflow of approximately 2.4 million cubic meters of water into Cyprus's reservoirs, the Department of Water Development is urging citizens to continue water conservation. This inflow, although significant, is not enough to reverse the drought situation, as the total amount of water stored in the reservoirs remains at 11.8% of their capacity, compared to 26.1% during the same period last year. The rains, in addition to their contribution to the water balance, were beneficial for the marine ecosystem and coastlines. The Department of Water Development continues to implement projects worth over €200 million to improve water management, including pipelines, reclaimed water, and irrigation projects.
