Parliament Discusses Fund for Loss of Use of Occupied Properties

The Parliament is discussing a bill to establish a National Fund for Loss of Use of Occupied Properties. The Ministry of Finance has expressed opposition to the creation of an independent body, proposing the integration of the issue into the existing Central Fund for Equitable Burden Sharing. DISY submitted the initial bill in September, while AKEL submitted two amendments. AKEL's amendments propose the use of unspent funds from the Fund for loss of use and the subsidization of housing loans. There are disagreements regarding the amount of funding and how it should be distributed. AKEL argues that the proposed 20 million euros are insufficient, while the Ministry of Finance believes that the creation of a new fund is unnecessary. The discussion focuses on the need for a fair and sustainable solution for the owners of occupied properties, as well as the effective management of available resources.
