Former Transport Minister Denies Involvement in Takata Circular

Former Minister of Transport, Marios Dimitriades, categorically denies any involvement or knowledge regarding the controversial 2017 circular issued by the Department of Road Transport (DRT) concerning the Takata faulty airbag case. The circular, which clarifies that distributors bear no responsibility for vehicle recalls, represents a change in previous practice and has sparked controversy. Mr. Dimitriades claims he gave no instructions for the circular's issuance and cites a statement from the then-DRT director, Giorgos Loukas, stating that the Ministry was not involved in shaping the new recall procedure. He also points out contradictions in the report, as it mentions that the Ministry was aware of the issue. He calls on the Investigative Committee to publish the letter in its entirety.
