Education Committee Examines Building Condition of Lakatamia Elementary School

The President and members of the House Education Committee visited the 3rd Lakatamia Elementary School following a request from the Parents' Association, to assess the school's building condition. The school, built in the mid-1980s, has not been renovated since and faces issues such as an unsuitable multipurpose hall, the lack of an elevator for students with mobility difficulties, the need for maintenance, and the poor condition of the fence. The Chairman of the Education Committee, Pavlos Mylonas, highlighted the age of the building and the need for infrastructure improvements. He mentioned the absence of an elevator and the need for maintenance work, adding that the Technical Services will submit a report on approved projects within 15 days. The President of the Parents' Association, Panitsa Chatziharapi, expressed her disappointment over the lack of renovation for 35 years. She described serious problems, such as flooding during rain and dampness causing illness in children. She argued that previous attempts at renovation had been unsuccessful, resulting in only superficial work. The cost of the renovation, which should include roofs and insulation, is estimated at around €400,000. The visit of the Education Committee took place after an event organized by the school, where the problems were presented to the relevant authorities.
