Traditions of the Three-Day Period with Disguises, Fasting Food and Kite Flying in the Fields

Cheesefare Sunday, also known as Tyrini Sunday, is the last day before the start of Lent. According to tradition researcher Anna Tselepou, this day is characterized by festivities, dances, songs, disguises and gastronomic delicacies. Roasted meat, ravioli and kataifi dominate the tables. Children dress up as "maskoudes" and go around houses, while Clean Monday marks the beginning of fasting with the consumption of fish, vegetables, moungra, sourdough bread and halva. Traditionally, people go to the fields and beaches to celebrate and fly kites.
