TOM: 8,487 Vehicles Have Not Replaced Defective Airbags

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced that 8,487 vehicles with defective airbags identified in 2025 have not yet been recalled for repair. In total, out of 81,060 vehicles identified with this issue, 5,271 owners have not proceeded with the replacement, resulting in the suspension of their roadworthiness certificates. Additionally, 3,216 vehicles identified between March and December 2025 remain recalled and have not been repaired. The DMV has implemented the prescribed control and suspension measures for these vehicles, with some already immobilized. The DMV is urging companies to speed up the supply of spare parts and customer service, while simultaneously reminding owners to replace defective airbags immediately. In parallel, the DMV announced the renewal of vehicle licenses for 2026, with 398,000 licenses renewed so far, compared to 412,000 last year. The deadline for renewal expires on March 11, 2026. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works emphasizes the importance of recalling vehicles with defective airbags for road safety, emphasizing the protection of the lives of drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
