EU Commissioner to Attend Gaza Peace Council Meeting

EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, will participate in a meeting of the Peace Council in Washington dedicated to Gaza, but will not be a member of the Council or attend as an observer. The European Commission is participating to contribute to the implementation of the ceasefire and the reconstruction of Gaza. The EU is the largest donor to the Palestinians, having allocated significant funds to humanitarian aid and support programs. The High Representative of the EU is in contact with the Foreign Ministers of the member states, while the EU Foreign Affairs Council will discuss next week the EU's contribution to a peace plan for Gaza. The Commission maintains questions about the functioning of the Peace Council, despite the invitation that was extended to President von der Leyen. The EU's participation comes at a critical time, with the aim of restoring stability and providing assistance to the population of Gaza. The EU seeks to play an active role in international efforts to achieve a sustainable peace in the region. The European Commission emphasizes its commitment to supporting the Palestinians and promoting peace and security in the Middle East. Commissioner Šuica's participation in the Peace Council is part of this effort.
