Audit Office Investigating Allegations Regarding Paphos Municipality - 'Everything Will Come to Light if Something is Found'

The Audit Office is currently examining allegations related to the Municipality of Paphos but is not conducting a formal investigation at this time. According to the Auditor General Andreas Papakonstantinou, the Service is evaluating the complaints and will decide to launch audits only if findings emerge. He clarified that if anything is found, everything will be made public. Mr. Papakonstantinou stated that he has received requests for meetings from individuals wishing to submit complaints regarding the Municipality of Paphos. After assessing the complaints, it will be decided when and which audits will be conducted. He stressed that the Service follows the same procedure for all entities being audited. Regarding the past, the Auditor General mentioned that a previous complaint had been forwarded to the Paphos Police and then to the Attorney General. The findings of the investigation were not made public at the time, and Mr. Papakonstantinou is unaware of the reason. During a meeting with the President of the Republic, energy issues and delays in various projects were also discussed. The Auditor General mentioned that there are concerns and expressed the view that organizations must take responsibility for their decisions.
