Schools: Many Projects, Funds Drip-Fed

Despite the planning and launch of school infrastructure projects, the available funds are considered insufficient in relation to real needs, according to a discussion in the House Education Committee. Approximately 35 million euros are planned for 2026, which is largely directed to already ongoing projects, limiting opportunities for new interventions. Total needs are estimated at 1 billion euros, while the cost of building a primary school has increased significantly, from 1.5 million euros in 2011 to 6-7 million euros today. In addition, there are pending issues in seismic interventions in 78 schools, and significant maintenance needs, while the expansion of Preschool Education creates huge infrastructure problems.
