REF Proposal to Executive Committee for Refugees

The Pan-Cypriot Refugee Association (REF) is seeking a review of criteria and an increase in grants for refugees to pre-2013 levels, considering the current housing crisis and the country's positive economic data. The REF's Housing and Reconstruction Committee has thoroughly examined proposals and plans to support the refugee population, covering services such as the Care and Rehabilitation Service for Displaced Persons and the Central Equal Burden Distribution Agency. REF's goals include improving procedures for Turkish Cypriot properties, repairing settlements, and utilizing state land for new housing. The final proposals will be submitted to the Executive Committee and then to the President of the Republic, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Finance. Simultaneously, the REF is monitoring issues such as loss of property use, encroachment, and illegal demolitions, expressing concern over the extradition of a convicted squatter to Israel. The REF is awaiting the passage of the proposal for the creation of a National Loss of Use Fund and insists on the urgent implementation of a plan or solidarity fund for the displaced, in order to reduce recourse to the Turkish Immovable Property Commission. Finally, the REF welcomes the amendments to the plans of the Central Equal Burden Distribution Agency and calls on the President of the Republic to sign them, thus promoting more effective support for refugees.
